Old Man Drinks
Recipes, Advice, and Barstool Wisdom by Robert Schnakenberg
Old Man Drinks offers a lifetime’s worth of wisdom and, more important, good drinking. There are no recipes for fruity appletinis and trendy cosmopolitans here. Old Man Drinks features cocktails your grandfather would remember from his nights on the town, way back during the Eisenhower administration.
Old Fashioned Drink
Ingredients: 1 sugar cube, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, 2 ounces Bourbon, Lemon Twist
Preparation: Muddle the sugar cube and bitters in the bottom of an Old Fashioned glass. Add ice and Bourbon. Stir. Garnish with a lemon twist.
Old Man Drinks inclused over 60 vintage cocktails, recipes and fascinating mini-histories for old-school party starters like the ever-popular Old Fashioned, Hot Toddy, Sidecar, and Satan’s Whiskers. Real-life quotes from real-life old men, such as “Scotch goes well with anything, especially marriage” and “A little booze’ll make you charming; a little more will make you an ass,” and evocative black-and-white photos of old men enjoying their drink of choice. So put down the beer (although there are some cocktails that combine beer with distilled spirits) and taste the good stuff–whiskey, rye, bourbon, gin–while soaking up the life lessons only old-timers can bestow.
