Dragon Bleu Vodka

RGI Brands co-founders, Jared Rapp & Moti Goldring, at the 2010 Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) show.

Dragon Bleu is a handcrafted, small batch, micro-distilled vodka from France made with Gensac Spring water and the distillation of three grains: wheat, barley and rye.

So what does Dragon Bleu mean? “The French word “Dragon” has no exact translation in the English language. To put it simply, Dragon is a pursuit. A pursuit of what you want and what you deserve. The pursuit of the finer things in life.”

Moti Goldring and Jared Rapp, childhood friends from the suburbs of Detroit, both received law degrees at Michigan State University College of Law, yet hanging out with them you would think they have a MBA from Boston’s Babson College, the #1 entrepreneurship school in the world.

These guys are now in the liquor business. They spotted an opportunity and took action. In 2005, Moti and Jared, travelling Europe during a law school vacation break, were introduced to Dragon Bleu vodka when they randomly met world famous French distiller Patrick Brisset at a gourmet food and beverage exposition. Patrick Brisset is also the former President of the International Centre for Spirits and Liqueurs.

Moti and Jared liked Dragon Bleu so much they decided to import this ultra-premium vodka into the United States and put aside the conventional law career. The two best friends formed RGI Brands in law school and spent a good time navigating and learning the antiquated United States alcohol laws that mostly came out of prohibition.

Liquor entrepreneurship is one of the most difficult businesses to break into because of so many laws. For example, not one state has the same distilled spirits laws, each has a different process, forms, licenses, etc . . . It’s like 50 countries in the USA. Good thing these guys got their law degrees, they are used to reading laws that don’t make any sense. We think it is easier to escape Guantanamo Bay then understand all the liquor laws.

Dragon Bleu Vodka is quite amazing. It is distilled only once which gives it a lot of character with the Gensac Spring water. It is a vodka you can drink straight quite easily with exceptional smoothness. Of course most vodka drinkers enjoy cocktails, so you can really tell the difference when this vodka is used. The Dragon Bleu Vodka website has some really cool cocktails that were created by mixologist Rico Miller: Wild Orchid, Tiger Lilly, Passionate Dragon, Honey Dew, Dragon Cocktail and Honey Berry. Also, Cheri Loughlin of The Intoxicologist has a great Dragon Blue vodka cocktail called Dragon Coco-Teani.

Dragon Bleu really puts the Grey Goose vodka to shame. They are both French vodkas, but Bacardi-owned Grey Goose vodka is industrially mass-produced, and that is a major reason for Grey Goose’s poor quality. The small batch, handcrafted Dragon Bleu vodka is just simply superior.

Micro Liquor encourages you to buy a bottle of Grey Goose and Dragon Bleu vodkas and do a blind taste test. We guarantee you will taste a tremendous quality difference.

Entrepreneurs follow their instict and pursue their passion. Moti and Jared are really an inspiration to anyone who is thinking about starting up their own business. So find yourself a bottle of Dragon Bleu Vodka and begin “your” pursuit.

I got introduced to Dragon Bleu in Chicago and I LOVE it. I hate to admit it but I’m sort of a snob when it comes to my taste in things and I have to say this vodka is the real deal. The best part is that drinking it is supporting a local brand!
