Charbay Tahitian Vanilla Bean Rum
Mmmmmm….gooood…If you can find it. This micro liquor flavored rum is one-of-a-kind! Charbay Tahitian Vanilla Bean Rum! The entrepreneur behind the Charbay name is Miles Karakasevic. His family has been in the wine and spirits business since the 1750s.
Miles was born in Yugoslavia. Miles immigrated to Canada in 1962 and shortly after went across the Ambassador bridge to Detroit. I’m guessing the Detroit 1967 Riots made him think twice about the city and eventually settled in California in 1970. But Miles didn’t leave Detroit empty-handed, he met his wife Susan who grew up in Michigan. Miles and Susan purchased Domaine Charbay, a 17-acre property in Napa Valley.
In 1983 they decided to venture on their own and began micro distilling on the property that is specifically located on Spring Mountain in St. Helena. They are one of the pioneers of the micro distilling in the United States–they started off by distilling brandy. Marko Karakasevic has joined the family business with his wife Jenni.
This is a great rum–and the best way to enjoy this micro rum is on an early sunny Saturday morning (it will make you feel you are on vacation for the whole day). Remember, you can’t drink all day unless you start in the morning!
Miles Karakasevic provides a lesson for us all–you can make a great living doing something you love. Miles and his family definitely love distilling micro liquors! You will taste what I mean once you try Charbay Rum!
Ok, so you probably will have a difficult time locating a bottle of this Charbay Tahitian Vanilla Rum masterpiece, but Micro Liquor will help you: call 707-963-9327 or email jenni@charbay.com
Charbay Tahitian Vanilla Bean Rum over ice will let you taste gentle flavors of the “Tahitian vanilla bean and rum flavors so mellow you’ll wonder why you didn’t start sipping it sooner.” I could not agree more! www.charbay.com

Reading this article made my mouth tickle for a taste of it. Good thing my BFF is headed to Napa in August. Think I will have her pick a bottle up for me. Can’t wait to experiment with it. I am thinking something cinnamony to make a hot toddy!
